




At the heart of the Company’s life is an outward-looking involvement with wider society.
In recent years the Company has focused on supporting projects that boost community organizations to help young people become responsible citizens by raising aspirations, attainment, standards and skills. The remainder of the Company’s charitable funds are allocated towards supporting traditional City projects, and helping organizations with which the Company has a relationship by providing advice, links and practical help.
The Company encourages and supports education and best practise in bee-keeping and related skills through prizes, money for lectures, and sponsorship of the National Honey Show. In recent years the Company has played a part in the Thames Gateway Partnership Area, of which the City of London Corporation is a member. Initiatives have included sponsorship of Erith School in its successful bid to become a Specialist School in Maths, Computing and Sport. More recently it helped and encouraged Trinity School Belvedere attain Specialist Status.
In common with many livery companies, the Wax Chandlers Company has formed an affiliation with a unit of HM Armed Forces, the Royal Navy’s HMS Campbeltown, and with the 5th Battalion of The Rifles.
The Company’s charities are William Kendall’s Charity and the Wax Chandlers Charitable Trust. The Company, through the Charity Committee, selects the projects that it wishes to support, in accordance with the Company’s grant making policies.
